Walker Friends group to meet

Friends of Walker Memorial Library will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the library, 800 Main St.

“Come learn about the important work of the Friends of the Walker Memorial (Library) and enjoy a special presentation by Brian and Jean Labonowski as they share stories and photos from their unforgettable travels in Africa,” the Friends posted online.

Westbrook Together Days reminder

Westbrook Together Days is set for Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, at Riverbank Park on Main Street.

The event includes entertainment, demonstrations, food trucks, a variety of activities and a parade.

50 years ago

The American Journal reported on June 4, 1975, that the historical society was launched with a meeting June 5 in the library at the old junior high school on Main Street to elect officers and take steps to form the society. Alexander Landry said in the article that he wished the society had been formed 100 years ago.
