Janice (MacIntyre) Hutchins
KENNEBUNKPORT – Janice MacIntyre Hutchins, a cherished resident of Kennebunkport, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025 at the age of 90.
Born on Dec. 8, 1934 in Norwood, Mass., she was the daughter of Alexander and Edith MacIntyre. Janice lived a life marked by dedication, kindness and community involvement.
Janice was a person of deep faith, finding strength and comfort in her Christian beliefs throughout her life. Her faith was a guiding light, inspiring her actions and interactions with everyone she encountered. She was a regular attendee and active member of the First Congregational Church of Kennebunkport, where her warmth and generosity were felt by all.
In her early years, Janice contributed significantly to her family’s business, Port Lobster. She was known for her hard work and attention to detail, particularly in picking shrimp and lobster meat, a task she performed with both skill and pride. Her contributions to the business were integral to its success and left a lasting legacy.
Janice’s commitment to her community extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was an active member of the Wildes District Fireman’s Woman’s Auxiliary, where she worked alongside others by baking beans for bean suppers, baking for bake sales, helping out at a lobster roll luncheon or a fish chowder supper or working on crafts throughout the year for the Christmas Prelude fair at Atlantic Hall to support the local community and their families. Janice and her sister, Judy, loved working together on Santa Clauses which they fondly called the “Nickies”. Each “Nickie” had its own personality. Janice would paint the faces and Judy would do the sewing and together they would accessorize. They loved spending time together and always had lots of laughs. She was an artist, and loved to collect antiques. She loved her dogs. Her charitable spirit and thoughtful nature made her a beloved member of these communities, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.
Janice’s life was enriched by her family, who were her greatest joy. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth N. Hutchins; and her sisters Jean Kennett and Judith LeBarge.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen M. Anuszewski, (Tom) Glen A. Hutchins, (Molly) Timothy N. Hutchins, (Mary) and Peter M. Hutchins (Alexandra); four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild who carry forward her legacy of kindness and community service.
Janice MacIntyre Hutchins will be remembered for her thoughtful and charitable nature, her dedication to her family and her unwavering commitment to her community. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
