Brian Smith

KENNEBUNK – Brian Smith, 70, passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at Huntington Commons in Kennebunk after a rapid progression of Parkinson’s disease. In his final days, he was continually surrounded by loving family and friends visiting him.

Brian was born and raised in Westford, Mass., the oldest son of four siblings to Lawrence and Marjorie (Fletcher) Smith. He graduated from Westford Academy with honors in 1972 and moved on to further his education at the University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture in Amherst, Mass.

After college, and a few years as an orchardman in Harvard and Sterling, Mass., Brian went on to work at the United States Department of Agriculture and Clover Group, both in Boston, Mass.

Brian married his now former spouse, Janis (Tuttle) Smith in 1981 and they had two children, Paige and Ian. In 1989, the family of four moved from Massachusetts to the peaceful wooded area of Arundel.

Brian worked as a produce inspector in the Hannaford Distribution Center, South Portland. He was a long-standing Master Gardener (York County) and a Mason (Arundel Lodge No.76 AF & AM).

Brian was predeceased by both of his parents; and his two younger sisters, Pamela McGinnity and Cynthia Smith.

He is survived by his former spouse, Janis, of Kennebunk; his brother, Dean Smith (Dori) of Sellersville, Pa., his brother-in-law, Peter McGinnity of Mason, N.H.; his daughter, Paige Smith (Karim) of New York, N.Y.; his son, Ian Smith (Kristin) and two grandsons, Luke and Alex, of Arundel; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A Masonic Service led by members of Arundel Lodge No.76 will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Westford, Mass.
