Portland broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the seventh inning to earn its first win of the season Thursday, pulling out a 6-3 victory at Cheverus in a Class A South baseball game.
Lucas Milliken was 3 for 3, and Connor Daniels and Tommy Chase each had two hits for the Bulldogs (1-10).
Bailey Jordan got the win with two scoreless innings in relief of Milliken. He also reached base three times, scored twice and drove in a run.
Reis Stamaris doubled and drove in two runs for Cheverus (2-10), which couldn’t take full advantage of nine Portland errors.
SACOPEE VALLEY 4, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 3: Braiden Croteau pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts, and the Hawks (7-4) edged the visiting Mustangs (8-3) in a meeting of the two most recent Class C state champions.
Two of the three runs against Croteau were unearned. He issued only one walk.
Croteau, Bryce Stacey and Silas Nielsen each drove in a run for the reigning state champions.
Rory Foyt hit a double for Monmouth, which is ranked No. 1 in the Class C South Heal point standings.
GORHAM 12, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: Cooper Whitehead drove in three runs, Mason Finck had three hits and two RBI, and the Rams (9-2) scored eight runs in the sixth inning to invoke the mercy rule against the Red Riots (7-4) in South Portland.
Wyatt Washburn added a single and a double. Finck had a single and a triple.
Miles Brenner and Wyatt Nadeau combined on a three hitter, with Brenner pitching the first four innings.
Hudson Iacuessa got two of South Portland’s three hits.
MT. ABRAM 14, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 12: Three big offensive innings were enough for the Roadrunners (9-2) to overcome the Seagulls’ 12-run, 14-hit performance in Salem Township.
Mt. Abram scored five runs in the bottom of the first, five in the third and four in the fourth.
The Roadrunners tallied eight hits and drew 11 walks. Bryce Wilcox drove in three runs and had one hit, while Ash Rollins doubled and singled, Brennan Mitchell singled twice and scored three runs, and Eben Laliberte had two RBI.
Trot Moody finished with three hits, scored four runs and drove in two runs for
Old Orchard Beach (6-5). Wesley Gallant, Aiden Hodgkins and Caleb Aube had two hits apiece, and Kooper Gervais doubled for the Seagulls’ lone extra-base hit.
SOFTBALL
CHEVERUS 17, WESTBROOK 2: Addison DeRoche drove in and scored four runs, Hailey Lamontagne was 3 for 3 with four runs scored, and winning pitcher Ashley Connor also crossed the plate four times as the Stags (10-0) needed just four innings to beat the Blue Blazes (7-5) in Westbrook.
Lamontagne, Abby Kelly, Anna Goodman and Sadie Collins all drove in two runs.
Emma Clukey had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for Westbrook.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 15, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Claudia Feeley homered and drove in three runs as the Panthers (9-2) beat the Eagles (4-7) in a game shortened to three innings in Newcastle.
Arianna Sproul added three hits, including a double, drove in three runs and scored three times. Sidney Nichols didn’t allow a base runner and struck out eight of the nine batters she facedd.
GIRLS LACROSSE
WINDHAM 16, MARSHWOOD 6: Neve Ledbetter had three goals and two assists, including the 100th goal of her career, to help the Eagles (8-1) beat the Hawks (8-3) in Windham.
Abby Trainor led Windham with five goals and two assists. Morgan McLain added four goals, while Grace Joly had a goal and an assist. Olivia McPherson and Elizabeth Baker also scored.
Madison Poitras netted two goals, and Anna Jennings, Eva Hersey, Sarah Theriault and Olivia Drake each added a goal for Marshwood.
YARMOUTH 13, THORNTON ACADEMY 12: Celia Zinman scored her eighth goal of the game with 3:14 remaining, lifting the Clippers (6-6) over the Golden Trojans (7-5) in Yarmouth.
Yarmouth trailed 10-7 entering the fourth quarter. After Zinman’s go-ahead goal, the Clippers won the draw and maintained possession the rest of the way.
Vivienne Corriveau added three goals for Yarmouth.
Olivia Lamey led Thornton with four goals. Sophia Sirois netted three goals and Oceanna LaMarre scored twice.
KENNEBUNK 10, FALMOUTH 8: Helen Kennie had four goals and an assist to lift the Rams (10-0) past the Navigators (6-4) in Falmouth.
Anna McCarron added three goals, while Camdyn Keenan had a goal and five assists. Julianna Urban and Cecelia DiGiovanni also scored.
Keira Alcock and Audrey Farnham both scored three goals for Falmouth. Jaelyn Meader and Elle Clark each added a goal.
