The Brunswick Rotary Club recently purchased a large, covered utility trailer for the Critical Home Repair program sponsored by Habitat for Humanity Seven Rivers. The trailer was purchased through a Rotary District 7780 grant.

The trailer will be outfitted with repair supplies and equipment and taken to every home repair project. Brunswick Rotarians and other volunteers recently participated in a two-day work session cutting wood, screwing shelves and placing them in the trailer so it will soon be ready for use by the repair team, which will serve Brunswick residents.

The Critical Home Repair program replicates programs in other nearby communities and falls under the direction of the Adam Lacher, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Seven Rivers. Seven Rivers staff and volunteers are well experienced and already manage vibrant and active home repair programs in Bath and surrounding Sagadahoc County communities, according to a prepared release.

Materials for outfitting the trailer were purchased and furnished by Habitat for Humanity Seven Rivers. The program focuses on home repairs for low-income seniors and residents who are financially unable to safely maintain their residence and will assist vulnerable homeowners who are physically or financially unable to maintain their home. Once repairs are complete, residents are more able to stay in their now warmer, dryer and safer home.

Repairs the program undertakes include installing wheelchair ramps, replacing rotted wooden porches and rails, repairing leaky faucets and drains, installing grab bars, and installing/replacing smoke detectors.

Details and repair schedules are being worked out by staff at Habitat for Humanity Seven Rivers with Brunswick leadership.
