Joyce (Mayberry) Hoyt

NORWAY – Joyce Mayberry Hoyt, South Paris resident and beloved mother to her two sons, Eric S. Hoyt of Westbrook and Scot L. Hoyt of South Paris, passed away shortly after advanced stage cancer diagnosis in Norway on May 17, 2025.

Growing up on Pigeon Hill in Oxford, Joyce was fourth of the five children of Earlon H. and Leona A. (McAllister) Mayberry, and she attended Oxford Schools, graduating from Oxford High School.

In her younger days, she worked at various manufacturing jobs including Stewart’s Bean Factory in South Paris, and BE Cole in Norway, which she called, “The Shoe Shop”. After marrying Ralph Hoyt, of Rumford, and settling in Bryant Pond, she became a

homemaker. Her most enjoyable work was providing in-home daycare to area children, and she considered all of these kids her extended family.

An amazing baker (she made the BEST zucchini bread and yeast rolls), she had a witty sense of humor and loved to laugh, and in her free time she enjoyed grange hall dances. In her later years, she became a dedicated fan of Maine Cabin Masters, and looked forward

to hearing from her grandkids.

Joyce is survived by her two sons, Eric and Scot; Eric’s children Joshua T. Hoyt, MacKenzie N. Hoyt, and Ethan L. Hoyt; Scot’s wife, Jane (McClay) Hoyt; sister, Ruth (Mayberry) and William Chick, brother, Richard Mayberry, brother, Don and Judy Mayberry, stepsister, Helena (Harris) and Terry Gray, stepbrother, James Harris; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Earlon and Leona, her stepmother, Jean Mayberry (formerly Harris); her sister, Patricia Seamon, sister-in-law, Pat (wife of Richard Mayberry); and ex-husband, Ralph L Hoyt.

At the request of Joyce, there will be no services. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Bryant Pond.

Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Online condolences may be shared with her family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com
