The Maine Marine Patrol is searching a bay in Washington County for a missing Milbridge man.

Alton Wallace, 51, was reported missing by a family member on Sunday afternoon after he did not return from a clam harvesting trip.

Marine Patrol and state police began the search in Narraguagus Bay around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, but it was called off due to poor visibility, according to a news release from the agency. Officials resumed the search Monday but later said they would pause overnight and return to the waters Tuesday.

Wallace’s last cellphone ping showed he was near Fickett Point around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, at the mouth of the Narraguagus River in Milbridge. The search Monday covered the same area, according to the release.

Several law enforcement agencies and local fisherman are assisting in the search. The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its involvement until “further developments,” the news release reads.
