Vaughndella L. Curtis
FREEPORT – Vaughndella L. Curtis, 92, of Freeport passed away on May 10, 2025.
She was born in Freeport on Nov. 12, 1932 to Josie and Albert Winslow. She graduated from Freeport High School. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Roland Curtis and raised their four children in Freeport.
She dedicated many years of her life to the community through various committees, clubs and the Freeport Town Council. Della opened up a daycare in her home and provided care for children for 27 years. After retiring from daycare she was a nanny for another 10 years. Being in the presence of children always made her happy.
She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, homemaking, antiques, her gardens and playing music on her keyboard.
She is survived by her children, Janet Sucher and her husband John of Centerville, Va., Abe Curtis of Durham, Elwyn Curtis and his wife Cindy of Freeport, Will Curtis and his partner Debbie Reeder of Freeport; special family, Mike Welsher and his wife Lisa of South Freeport; her grandchildren, Paul Curtis, Sarah Sucher, Anthony Sucher, Allison Curtis and her partner Justin Dodge, Matthew Curtis and his partner Lauren Mildrum, Levi Curtis and his wife Krystal, Sam Curtis and his wife Randi, Chris Huntoon Reeder and Lily Welsher; two great-grandchildren, Riley and Della Curtis.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday May 31 at the South Freeport Congregational Church in South Freeport from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be a private burial at a later date.
