Clifford G. Dow Sr.

FALMOUTH – Clifford G. Dow, Sr. passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at the age of 89 in Falmouth.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann Pratt Dowl and their four sons, Clifford (Lisa), Russell (Krisztina), Michael (Elizabeth), William Dow; and seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Alexander, Isabelle, Travis, Xantia, Henry, and Zsofia.

Clifford was born in New Haven, Conn. on Nov. 26, 1935 to George and Louise Dow. Clifford spent his early childhood in West Baldwin before moving to Lewiston where he graduated as valedictorian of his high school class. He went on to earn a physics degree from Harvard College and a MBA from Harvard Business School. While in business school, he also served in the Air National Guard.

After an early career as a research analyst on Wall Street, Clifford returned to Maine to join his family in the investment business. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to helping others achieve financial security, with a particular passion for assisting those of modest means.

A lifelong scholar of the securities markets, Clifford was a teacher at heart. He taught night classes in statistics and other business courses at the University of Maine; he offered a free investment course open to all; and he authored a book on securities investing. He mentored many – especially his own children, to whom he was both a tutor of countless hours and their greatest business guide. He believed that an education was the most valuable investment that one could make.

Clifford and Barbara retired to their Sebago Lake cottage where he continued to read, study, and assist others. He most enjoyed the visits of his grandchildren.

Clifford was a devoted husband and dedicated father. He made the world a much better place for many. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation on Friday, May 23, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. Interment will be in West Baldwin.
