Lucie Axelsen went 5 for 6 to pace a 25-hit attack as Greely slugged its way to a 22-7 win over Wells in a Western Maine Conference softball game Thursday at Wells.
Fiona MacArthur, Katie Wallace, Presley Allard and Quinn Simpson all had three hits for the Rangers (2-0). Simpson drove in three runs, and four players scored three times. Everyone in Greely’s lineup had at least one hit, one run and one RBI.
Payton Fazzina led Wells (1-2) with three hits. Kylie Corbett, Savannah Tardiff, Delani Brown and Jada Pullen each added two hits.
BASEBALL
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 7, ST. DOMINIC 6: The Seagulls scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to win a season opener against the visiting Saints.
Old Orchard Beach was held to four hits but took advantage of nine walks. The Seagulls took a 6-3 lead with four runs in the fifth, but St. Dom’s answered with the runs in the sixth.
Trot Moody had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for OOB, and Wes Gallant scored three runs. Aiden Hodgkins earned the win in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out five over the final 3 1/3 innings.
Finley Cavers and Ben Dumais led St. Dom’s with two hits apiece.
GIRLS LACROSSE
THORNTON ACADEMY 14, CHEVERUS 9: Oceanna LaMarre paced the Trojans (2-1) with five goals in a win over the Stags (2-1) in Portland.
Thornton also got four goals from Olivia Lamey, three from Addie Lamey and two from Sophia Sirois.
Sophia St. John’s put in five goals for Cheverus. Taylor Hoglund scored twice, and Sophia Tamulevich and Olivia Vigue got one each.
YARMOUTH 11, YORK 9: Celia Zinman notched three goals and three assists, helping the Clippers hold off the Wildcats in Yarmouth.
The hosts led 6-5 at halftime and maintained their advantage throughout the second half, though they didn’t clinch the victory until Metta Lindsay got her second goal of the game with 44 seconds remaining.
Vivienne Corriveau also scored three goals for Yarmouth. Eleanor Weyenberg had a goal and two assists, and Maya Nasveschuk and Erica O’Connor also scored.
Ava Fontaine paced York with five goals. Ella Neiverth added two, and Elouise McAllister and Emma Joyce got one each.
WEDNESDAY’S BOYS LACROSSE
KENNEBUNK 21, WESTBROOK 1: Kellen Connor tallied four goals and two assists, and Weston Church, Alex Adams and Kyle Wells each added three goals as the Rams (2-0) beat the Blue Blazes (0-2) in Kennebunk.
Eleven players scored at least one goal for the Rams.
