Burns earns Eagle Scout rank

Logan Burns, a member of Pine Tree Council Scouting America Troop 83 in Westbrook, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at an April 12 Eagle court of honor ceremony held at Prides Corner Congregational Church. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest achievement obtainable from Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America).

Only 4% of scouts have ever attained this prestigious honor since it was first awarded by the Boy Scouts of America in 1912.

Burns, son of Aaron and Lisa Burns of Westbrook, earned the 21 merit badges required to earn the Eagle Scout rank and was also required to demonstrate leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle service project. For his Eagle service project, Burns raised funds, planned, and implemented the construction of a new pressure-treated wood staircase
leading to an outdoor garden labyrinth at Prides Corner Congregational Church.

During his scouting career, Burns was selected to be a member of the Pine Tree Council contingent at the 2023 National Scout Jamboree, which is held quadrennially at the Bechtel Summit Scout Reserve in West Virginia. Burns previously served as the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 83 and is a member of Madockawanda Lodge No. 271 of the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s national honor society.

Burns, a senior at Westbrook High School, is ranked seventh in his graduating class and has been an active participant in the Westbrook High School Drama Team, Chamber Singers, Jazz Chorus, Jazz Lab Band and Outdoor Track Team.

As a member of the Drama Team, Burns wrote and co-starred in, “Who Could Have Possibly Done This?” which was the only original student-written play performed at the Maine Principals’ Association 2025 Maine Drama Festival one-act play competition.

Burns has been accepted into the Honors College program at the University of Maine for the fall 2025 semester where he will study mechanical engineering.
