Elizabeth H. Jagger

SHAPLEIGH – Elizabeth H. Jagger (born Elizabeth Mary Hughes) passed away on April 16, 2025, following a brave four-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Liz was born on Nov. 23, 1948, in Glynneath, South Wales, Great Britain, to John and Edna (Evans) Hughes. In 1971, she married Richard Jagger of Sanford, Maine, and together they raised two sons, Aaron (1974–2023) and Robert (born 1977).

A lifelong volunteer, Liz achieved the rank of Queen’s Guide in the UK (similar to the Girl Scouts’ Gold Award), as well as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, presented to her at Buckingham Palace. In the U.S., she was awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s Silver Beaver Award for her longtime service, inspiring both of her sons to become Eagle Scouts.

Liz was also deeply involved in Springvale First Baptist Church, where she served in many roles; most memorably singing in the choir until ALS silenced her beautiful voice.

A Celebration of her Life will be held in the near future.
