A Limerick man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident Saturday afternoon.

Maine State Police responded to reports of shots fired at 17 Prokey Drive in Limerick at about 3:15 p.m., according to a news release.

Police say Steven Henry, 57, of Limerick, was doing burnouts in his pickup truck near the Prokey Drive residence. The homeowner emerged and confronted Henry, who allegedly fired a gun before driving away.

A responding officer located Henry’s truck on Shaving Hill Road in Limington, where Henry and a passenger were standing outside. Both attempted to flee in the vehicle, police said, but were later detained with assistance from the Maine Warden Service.

Officers took Henry into custody and transported him to the York County Jail. In addition to attempted murder, he is charged with reckless conduct with a firearm and discharge of a firearm near a dwelling.

The handgun allegedly used in the incident was located by a state police dog about 40 feet from where Henry’s vehicle was found.

Police determined that the passenger was not present at the time of the shooting. No charges have been filed against the passenger.
