Tighter high school parking expected

Gorham High School Principal Brian Jandreau said in a recent letter to the school community that he is working with education and town officials about parking plans for next year.

The high school has 240 numbered spaces with 117 of those reserved for staff. The number of spaces is shrinking, Jandreau wrote.

The school department’s expansion plans with a cafeteria enlargement and modular classrooms on the campus will eliminate parking spaces in a dirt lot and enrollment is expected to increase by 50 students at the high school, according to Jandreau.

This year, parking was at a “first-come, first-served model” for all students, Jandreau wrote. He also wrote that school officials have observed “40-50 empty spots” in the paved lot during the school day. The issue has been that some students have parked routinely in staff spots.
