Paul A. Gonya Jr.
LARGO, Fla. – Paul A. Gonya, Jr. passed away on March 28, 2025, from complications of Frontotemporal Dementia.
Paul was born in Presque Isle on Sept. 12, 1956, to Paul and Ruth (Morrison) Gonya. Paul’s family moved to Gorham in 1968, where he later graduated from Gorham High School in 1974 and Central Maine Community College in 1976.
Paul moved to Clearwater, Fla. in 1981 and had a wonderful life pursuing his career as an architect, volunteering with local charities and causes close to his heart, attending Tampa Bay Rays baseball games, and traveling all around the world with his husband, Wayne Whitney. Paul and Wayne always shared their volunteerism and travel adventures on social media, it felt like we were all traveling the world with them to these amazing locations.
Paul was predeceased by his husband; his parents; and his sister, Paula Gonya (Troy).
Paul is survived by his sister, Susan O’Brien (Randy); nieces Erin O’Brien, Caitlin O’Brien (Craig), Megan O’Brien (Tristan) and Shannon O’Brien (Casey); great-nieces and nephews Madison Morton, Jack and Emily Feldhaus, Travis and Paige Neily, Molly and Mae Maskalenko; and many aunts, uncles; and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer.
