The Gorham Fire Department responded to a fire at a medical marijuana cultivation facility on Friday afternoon.
The fire at the 20,000-square-foot building at 7 County Road near the Gorham-Scarborough town line was initially detected by two employees, who partially put out the flames with fire extinguishers. The fire was not fully extinguished when fire crews arrived around 2:30 p.m., according to a Maine Department of Public Safety news release.
The two employees were treated on scene by EMS for smoke inhalation before being released.
A preliminary investigation indicated a broken light fixture fell onto a plastic table and smoldered before igniting, according to the news release.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is leading the investigation into the incident, with assistance from the Gorham Fire Department and the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy.
Fire crews from Buxton, Windham and Westbrook provided aid on the call.
