Kennebunk Free Library announced that it has officially designated a Family Place Library. The library was presented with its Family Place banner last week.

“Family Place Libraries transforms libraries into community centers for early literacy, parent education, and family support,” wrote Maria Richardson, head of youth services, in a news release. “We do this through our 1-2-3, Play With Me, Storytime, and Thursday Family Fun Play programs, as well as our fun play areas in the library. We love being a destination for learning, growing, and playing for our littlest library friends and their families.”
According to library officials, a library patron said it best, “It makes our day to see other families, practice sharing, laugh, and play with other children we don’t see elsewhere. Kennebunk Free Library is awesome, so kid-friendly, a true asset to our community. Thank you. What a great way to celebrate National Library Week. Thank you to the Family Place libraries group and to all of our library friends.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
