Final plans are taking shape to repair the Spurwink Bridge, which crosses the Spurwink River along the Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough town line.
Frequented by those visiting Crescent Beach State Park, which is about 1.5 miles down the road, the bridge was used by 4,800 vehicles per day on average throughout 2022, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

The bridge will undergo repairs for surface cracking, rusting and erosion to the bridge’s draining system as well as erosion to the bridge’s foundation.
Work is proposed to begin in fall 2026 and be finished by summer 2027. One lane will remain open throughout construction, maintaining alternating one-way traffic with temporary traffic lights.
Construction during the tourism offseason is designed to avoid the summer traffic to and from the State Park and also to avoid the nesting season for local endangered species, according to the Maine DOT, such as piping plovers.
