
Dolores Amergian Drivas
SOUTH PORTLAND – Dolores Amergian “Arpie” was born in 1929 to Armenian immigrant grocer parents Michael and Natalie Amergian in Portland, Maine. Attending North School, then Portland High, while working at the store, fostered many friendships that she cherished throughout her life. She graduated from Westbrook Junior College and the University of Maine at Orono, attaining a degree in Physical Education. She taught school in Bar Harbor, Bangor, New York, and Portland.
She married her college sweetheart, Peter Drivas, settling down in South Portland while raising a family. During that time, she stayed active in education as a PTA and South Portland school board member. She also held positions and memberships in various clubs including College Club of Portland, Women of Rotary, UMO Alumni, Garden Clubs, and the Cumberland County Retired Teacher Association. Dolores was a proud member of the Portland Armenian American community, belonging to groups since the 1950s.
Dolores was a vivacious spirit, beloved matriarch, gifted cook, gracious host, and seasoned traveler. She brought people together with laughter, love, and unforgettable meals wherever she went. Dolores was a loving mother, aunt, and grandmother, and will be missed by many.
Dolores, who passed away April 3, 2025, is survived by her three children, Pamela Drivas, Ross Drivas, Matthew Drivas (his wife, Julia); her two grandchildren, Samantha Hajec (her husband, Jacob) and Michael McTigue; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home in South Portland, 1024 Broadway. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11, also at Conroy-Tully Walker. Burial will follow at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
