Portland police arrested two men accused of threatening or attacking different people with knives in separate incidents Wednesday night.

A 33-year-old Portland man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to stab someone near Commercial Street and then drove the victim’s car a short distance and slashed two tires, police said.

Portland police say the incident was reported just before 9 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Commercial and High streets. When officers arrived, witnesses pointed out the suspect, who was wielding a knife, said spokesperson Brad Nadeau.

The suspect was taken into custody and was being held at the Cumberland County Jail. He was charged with robbery, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal mischief, theft by unauthorized use of property and interference with constitutional rights.

No one was injured in the first incident.

Earlier in the day, police arrested a man after he allegedly threw a brick at another person and assaulted them, and then threatened a second victim with a knife, Nadeau said.

Police charged the 34-year-old homeless man with assault, aggravated criminal assault and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, Nadeau said. He was being held at Cumberland County Jail.

The victim was treated at Maine Medical Center and later released, Nadeau said.
