Stanley Joseph Piawlock

SOUTH PORTLAND – Stanley Joseph Piawlock, 86, of South Portland died peacefully Friday morning, March 28, 2025 at Maine Medical Center with his son by his side.

The only child of Stanley J. and Mary (Dabrosky) Piawlock, he was born in Portland on Nov. 15, 1938. After graduation from Cheverus High School in 1956, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy serving for three years. After being honorably discharged from the service he met and fell in love with Judith Chamberlin of Brattleboro, Vt., and they were married in Sept. of 1959. The following year he became a police officer for the city of Portland, where he was able to continue his education, always rising in rank and receiving many commendations. He retired in 1981 after serving for 21 years.

After retirement from the Police force, Stan took the position of Chief of Security for Bates College, bringing them to Lewiston for five years. While working at Bates, Stan and Judith bought a piece of land on Peaks Island and eventually built a home on it.

After leaving Lewiston, Stan took a job at the federal courthouse in Portland as a U.S. Marshal. He traveled to Portland from Peaks on the ferry every day, an experience he genuinely enjoyed. He finally retired from working at the rough age of 76. When they decided it was time to sell the house on Peaks they moved to Buxton where they lived for a while and then moved to South Portland.

Stan was predeceased by his parents; his youngest son, Joe; and his granddaughter, Paige.

He is survived by his wife Judith of 66 years; his children, Vicki Hall (Dan), Laura Piawlock (Mike McNabb), Diane Seubert (Rod), Debra Piawlock (Frank Brume Jr.) and Mark Piawlock (Donise Price); he is also survived by his grandchildren, Abby, Jake, Amara, and Brooke; and his great-grandchildren, Mason, Matthew, Lucas, and Harper; and his daughter-in-law Yvonne Piawlock.

Stan was “The Man”, he was a selfless, brilliant, well-read man of faith, always reading and learning. He loved being on or in the water, ocean, or lake, it didn’t matter. Stan and Judy traveled many places together. They especially loved Venice Beach in Florida where they wintered for several years. Stan loved his family and was a faithful friend to many. He will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Sunday, April 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s, 268 Brown St., Westbrook, followed by committal services in New Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow the committal service at the funeral home.
