Lillian (Marshall) Bartlett

KENNEBUNKPORT – Lillian Marshall Bartlett died March 24, 2025, at the age of 99, following a brief illness.

She was born in Saugus, Mass. Sept. 7, 1925, to Elizabeth Marston and Archie Marshall, and moved to Concord, N.H. in 1926.

In 1978, Lillian and husband Carl settled in Kennebunkport. They built a family home, felt adopted by the community and with a partner, opened Port Hardware. Lillian became the “MAIL LADY” insuring mail arrived daily from the post office to the store. This also opened an opportunity for daily coffee at one of the local coffee shops. This was a must-do activity.

A lifetime member of the Methodist Church, Lillian was a willing worker in Concord at the Wesley Methodist Church and the Church on the Cape in Kennebunkport. She was a voracious reader, a knitter of hats, mittens and prayer shawls, a vicious Scrabble player and would not bat an eye to putting on a church bean supper for 150 attendees. Most recently, she was recognized by Kennebunkport by being awarded the Boston Post Cane.

She was predeceased by her parents; and husband of 60 years, Carl G. Bartlett (2007).

Surviving family members include Jane Bartlett Welch and husband James, Mary Bartlett Remington and partner Michael Allen (predeceased in 2023), Harry Preston Bartlett and wife Debby, Carl G. Bartlett, Jr. and wife Leslie, Alan Marshall Bartlett and wife Terry; grandsons Philip Remington and wife Kristina, Nicholas Bartlett, Justin Bartlett and wife Gulrukh, and Brendan Bartlett and wife Hannah; and was “Gramma Lil” to great-granddaughters Jesse and Addie. She had a large community of friends; including special family friends Suzanne Gewehr and Sanaye Bartlett.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Church on the Cape, 3 Langsford Rd., Kennebunkport; Reverend Greg Smith officiating. A Private burial will take place in Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport, later in the spring.
