George A. Allen
SCARBOROUGH – In loving memory of George A. Allen, who passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025 at the age of 93, while a resident at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough.
George was born and raised in New York, N.Y., and moved to Maine when he joined the Coast Guard in 1949/’50. While in Maine, he met his wife of 52 years, Martha Malpass. They raised their five children in Portland and as a family, they worshipped at First Lutheran Church. Recently, he attended Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church.
George worked for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company as a truck driver for over 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida where he enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and many activities with friends. George was loved by many and will be remembered for his kindness, his love of teasing and his laugh.
He was predeceased by his wife, Martha Malpass Allen (2005); son, Thomas R. Allen (2023); and second wife, Helen Leavitt Allen (2024).
He is survived by his sons George T. Allen of Raymond and Paul M. Allen of Dover, N.H., daughters Karen J. Peterson of Palmyra, Va. and Elizabeth M. Fisher of Columbia, S.C., daughters-in law Susan Allen, Lynn Allen and Kathy Allen, son-in-law, Jay Peterson; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two stepchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer.
