Ellen L. Dupuis
SACO – Ellen L. Dupuis, 68, of Saco, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at home, following a courageous fight against an aggressive form of cancer.
Ellen was born in Biddeford on Dec. 18, 1956, the youngest of three children to Harley and Virginia (Mercier) Scammon. She was educated in Saco Schools, and graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1975. While in school she participated in many activities, but her favorite was Ski Club.
Ellen married her high school sweetheart, Jon Dupuis, on Sept. 9, 1978. The young couple began their lives together in a small apartment on North Street, but soon relocated to Buxton Road where they raised their two children, Anna and Jason.
Ellen began her working career with Morse, Payson & Noyes Insurance Company, which over time became part of TD Bank, and later was acquired by USI Insurance, where she served as Senior Vice President of Personal Lines. Ellen was a respected leader and talked about her team with affection. She retired in July of 2024 after a career in insurance that spanned 47 years.
Always up for an activity or adventure, Ellen was never one to sit still for long. She was always ready with art supplies for her grandchildren, crafting with her friends, playing cribbage with her dad, and for years maintained the tradition of Saturday afternoon tea time with her mom, her sister, and her children. She enjoyed entertaining, and loved having a house full of family for holidays. Ellen and Jon enjoyed spending summer days at the “lake house” surrounded by family, and travelling to Aruba each winter.
Ellen was an incredibly caring mother and grandmother, and thoroughly supported her kids and grandkids with everything they did. She loved watching their sporting events and activities, and simply hearing about their days. Through the years the family has made many lasting memories that they will hold on to and cherish forever.
She was predeceased by mother, Virginia Scammon.
She is survived by her father, Harley Scammon; by her husband of 46 years, Jonathan Dupuis; by her daughter, Anna Marcotte and husband Nathan, by her son, Jason Dupuis and wife Michelle; and by grandchildren Kellan Dupuis, Lily Dupuis, Evelyn Marcotte and Harper Marcotte. She is also survived by siblings Linda Trudeau and husband Phillip, and Robert Scammon; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at United Baptist Church in Saco.
