Pulitzer Prize-winning author, historian and journalist Rick Atkinson will discuss the newest volume in his Revolution Trilogy, “The Fate of the Day,” with Susan Swain, journalist and recently retired co-chief executive of C-SPAN on June 19 at the Kennebunk River Club.

The Summer Author Event is hosted by the Louis T. Graves Memorial Library and is open to the public. The annual fundraising event, according to a news release, features nationally recognized authors and speakers. Last year’s speaker was author, journalist and professor Paul Hendrickson.
Ticket sales and donations support the library operations and celebrate the community’s commitment to ideas and dialogue.
Atkinson’s new book, “The Fate of the Day: The War for America, Fort Ticonderoga to Charleston, 1777-1780,” published by Crown Publishing, is the second volume of the Revolution Trilogy and coincides with the 250th anniversary of the beginning of America’s war for independence. His bestselling first volume, “The British Are Coming,” won multiple book prizes, including the George Washington Prize, awarded by Mount Vernon and its partners.
A winner of the Pulitzer Prize for history and journalism, Atkinson has produced an oeuvre of best-selling American history. According to the news release, renowned filmmaker/historian Ken Burns said, “Rick Atkinson takes his place among the greatest of all historians. This superb second volume in his Revolution Trilogy is that rare narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat.”
Atkinson will share his work on stage with Swain. Swain, who recently retired from her role, helped create the C-SPAN’s American History TV and First Ladies: Influence & Image series. She was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame in 2017.
