DLSM Night at Saco Scoop.
On Wednesday, April 9, some of your favorite Dyer Library and Saco Museum staff members will be celebrity scoopers at the Saco Scoop on Main Street. From 5-7 p.m. a portion of all sales will benefit Dyer Library/Saco Museum. That includes ice cream, frappes, coffee drinks, and more. Come help us celebrate National Library Worker Day and let us scoop you up some delicious ice cream.
Library card winners
The three winners of the library card contest conducted this winter were announced earlier this month. The winner in the children’s category was Penny Gordon, whose color design celebrated community. Elliott Aranovitch won the teen category for their colorful rendering of a futuristic city, while Emrys Fir was the top choice in adult submissions for a black and white drawing featuring knights in shining armor.
Congratulations to our winners, and all our participating artists. Special edition library cards with these designs will be available later this spring as we reissue cards to all patrons as part of our exciting transition to the MINERVA system.
New calendar; reserve a room online
DLSM now has a new, more accessible online calendar and option for requesting a meeting room. On the DLSM website front page, click the Events Calendar tab on the top of the page, which will take you to a month-by-month calendar. To request a day/time for the Deering Room and/or Library Board Room, click the Reserve a Room tab, then Reserve by Room or Reserve by Day. A member of the library staff will review the request and contact the person.
Knitting exhibit open until April 19
The current exhibit, “Tending to Our Knitting: Traditions and Trends” will be on view until Saturday, April 19, in the main gallery and the hall leading to it at the museum. Based on the collection of Jacqueline Fee, author of “The Sweater Workshop”, the exhibition features an array of historical knitted home goods and garments. Visitors are invited to “sit and knit a bit,” with yarn and knitting needles available in a comfy area.
New museum hours
Saco Museum is now open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays instead of Fridays. Admission is now free for all after 4 p.m. on Thursday (instead of Friday). Dyer Library cardholders always enjoy free admission. The museum is closed Sunday and Monday; open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
