President Trump has promised to cut off all federal funds from Maine if it fails to condemn a trans high school student. Should we focus on this above world peace, assistance to the less fortunate in the world and our declining image around the world?
Much research is ongoing as to the causes of gender transitioning. I have observed in my own family a transgender grandnephew, who was born female but exhibited male traits from the time he learned to walk.
While I understand the unfair advantage that other competitors feel of genetic differences, I also have empathy for the trans athletes who are singled out and not allowed to compete. This often results in emotional damage.
With all the other priorities that are eating away at America’s reputation around the world, we should not be put to sleep by these small-minded issues. I do not mind being labeled “woke.”

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
