Dauphinais’s exhibit, according to a news release, features black and white digital prints taken locally as well as in her travels beyond Maine. She has included select images from different countries, seasons and genres.

“I hope to demonstrate how monochrome images can cause a familiar scene to appear so much more striking and dramatic than some of their color counterparts, and perhaps allow the audience to see details they may not have noticed otherwise,” said  Dauphinais. “Shadows and empty black spaces seem to intensify the details of the main subject.”

Although Dauphinais has taken pictures her whole life, it has been in retirement that she has been able to focus on learning more about photography and do more experimenting with the hobby she loves. As mainly a landscape photographer, after a career in engineering, she came to Maine to indulge in her hobby.

Her images have supported multiple nonprofits through auction donations, documenting events and special projects, as well as conserving artifacts. Dauphinais has had images published in books, social media and other publications.

The public is invited to view the exhibit in the library’s Speers Gallery from April 1-30 at 112 Main St., Kennebunk, during regular library hours when the gallery is not in use for library programs. For current hours and gallery access, visit www.kennebunklibrary.org.
