RAYMOND – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maxine, lovingly known as Skip, on Feb. 14, 2025. Skip was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on Sept. 16, 1941, Skip’s life was characterized by a strong dedication to family, community, and her cherished values.
Skip was born in Raymond. She lived in Scarborough for much of her adult life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Roy Raynor of Raymond and her sister Dorothy Turner also of Raymond. She is survived by a sister, Doris Tripp of Windham, nieces and nephew.
After completing her education, Skip embarked on a career as a secretary, quickly earning a reputation for her dedication, integrity, and exceptional skills.
After retiring from secretarial duties, Skip began working as a school bus driver. Skip loved the children, enjoyed extra duties such as bus tours for adults and sports activities for the children.
Throughout her life Skip was a very independent woman. When women were not pilots, Skip sold her motorboat for flying lessons. She became one of the first licensed women pilots in the State of Maine. Skip also drove motorcycles, played electric guitar and drums and played in a small band.
In her last few years Skip lived at Clover Manor of Auburn. While living there she shared her generous free spirit and happy-mindedness serving as a light to all who met her.
A graveside committal service will be held in Raymond later this year. Arrangements are in the care of the Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road in Casco. Condolences, tributes and “Skip stories” may be shared at http://www.hallfuneralhome.net.
