Joel M. Link
SOUTH PORTLAND – Joel M. Link, 81, passed away on March 1, 2025, with his wife by his side. He was born on July 19, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo. to the late Emerson and Nancy (Smith) Link.
Joel graduated from St. George High School in Tenants Harbor in 1961. Shortly after, he joined the Air Force, where he proudly served for 28 years before retiring in 2000. On May 8, 1970, Joel married Cynthia in Tenants Harbor, and together they raised their son, Martin.
Following his military career, Joel spent 10 years driving trucks for Martin Marietta. He also enjoyed sewing and tailoring, with a special passion for working on military uniforms, adding ranks and insignias for many years. A devoted fan of all New England sports teams, Joel found great joy in following their successes.
Joel was an active member of the South Portland VFW #832, and then later he belonged to the Deering Post #6859 in Portland, American Legion Post #17, and the Rockland Elks Club. He was known for enjoying good cocktails and spending time with friends and family.
Joel was predeceased by his brothers E. Blaine and R. Stevens.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia; his son, Martin; granddaughter, Logan Marie Link; and many extended family members.
He will be remembered for his dedication to service, his craftsmanship, and the love he shared with those closest to him.
