Catherine (Caselden) McIntire
PORTLAND – Catherine (Caselden) McIntire, 74, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, after a sudden illness. The youngest born to James and Elsie Caselden, Cathy grew up on Cole Street in South Portland and was a 1969 graduate of South Portland High School, and later, a graduate of the University of Southern Maine.
She had a long and successful career at Maine Medical Center, working on several patient care floors before transitioning to the Maternal-Fetal-Medicine program. Her drive and work ethic throughout her life was unmatched, whether it was her first job at Jordan’s Store in Sebago or the L.L.Bean warehouse in her retirement years, Cathy was always working to fix, beautify or improve something. This drive and work ethic was something she also instilled in her children. Cathy was vibrant, outgoing and her zest for life was strong until her last few days.
Cathy found immense love, joy, and pride spending time with her two granddaughters baking, playing, and supporting them in their activities. She treasured the Long Beach area of Sebago Lake where she lived throughout the summer. She even went for one last swim in Sebago with her family this past October.
Her legacy will live through the countless friends and family and the endless memories created with all those she touched. Cathy’s deep and lasting connections encompassed decades, including her ‘oldest friend’ of nearly 70 years, Kathy T. and the Kaler School Girls; Cyndi, Denise and Kathy D.
She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers James and Ronald Caselden; and nephew, Charles “Chuck” Caselden.
Surviving are her daughter (and son-in-law), Cassie and Jason Pelletier, son (and daughter-in-law), Mac and Erika McIntire; two cherished granddaughters, Kate Pelletier and Margaret McIntire; sister, Laura Wolford; nieces and nephews in Maine, Massachusetts and California.
The family would like to thank the entire team of healthcare professionals at Maine Medical Center who provided her the most exemplary care, compassion, and kindness over these past three weeks.
