Paul J. Schlaver
SACO – At 11:11 a.m. on Feb. 25, 2025, Paul J. Schlaver passed away as he rested peacefully in front of his woodstove in Saco.
Born on Feb. 7, 1945, in Chicago, Ill., to Clarence Otto and Elizabeth Mary Schlaver (Cronau). Paul’s family moved from Kewanee to Mt. Prospect, Ill. where he graduated high school. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Fr David Schlaver C.S.C.
A graduate from Notre Dame, Paul went on to become a lawyer and devoted his career to public service as the Director of the Cambridge Consumers Council. For Paul, community was as important as family. He devoted a great deal of time to Union Church in Biddeford Pool, the Saco Bay Garden Club and Saco Meals programs.
Paul is survived by his younger sister Marcia Schlaver Steffens; and his children, Lisa Schlaver, Benjamin Schlaver, Julian Schlaver and Roxi Suger; his grandchildren, Cotton Schlaver, Kristina Provitola, Michelle O’Callaghan, and Erika O’Callaghan; and his six great grandchildren.
He cherished his family and friends. His kind, generous spirit and sparkling blue eyes will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held on March 8, 2025, at 11:11 a.m. at Cote Funeral Home in Saco.
