I would like to give a follow-up to my comments printed in The Forecaster at the end of January regarding the dams removal in Yarmouth (“Yarmouth residents should vote on dam removal“). After that appeared in The Forecaster, one of Yarmouth’s town councilors, Karin Orenstein, reached out to me. We met for coffee and had a wonderful, informative meeting. She provided such thorough information on the dams, which made me realize I was truly uninformed. Like I said in my first comment, I thought I kept up with information, but after having this meeting I realized I did not.
I also want to say for myself when I chose to write to The Forecaster, I tried to keep a positive tone while inquiring. I am very appreciative of Karin to have reached out to me and also to let me know our town’s councilors are always available to speak to us about any of our concerns for the town. Just goes to show we can learn something every day.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
