Maine State Police are investigating after a hunter discovered a body Tuesday morning near Schmid Land Preserve in Edgecomb.
Shannon Moss, spokesperson for state police, said that Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department officers blocked off the area with crime scene tape after receiving a 911 call from a hunter who found the body. Moss confirmed the discovery Wednesday evening.
The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) Central, which Lt. Chris Tremblay oversees, will handle the investigation.
Police said the body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death and identify the deceased.
“State police have been on the scene, working with local law enforcement since being notified,” Moss said. “More information will be released, but it’s a process. At this point, there is no imminent danger.”
