Regarding the Nov. 2 op-ed “A plea to all Jewish Mainers,” I would ask the writer to please find any group of Palestinians who are willing to negotiate peace with Israel. Find 100 people willing to live side-by-side with Israel and accept it as a state. Point to one Palestinian ruler, for Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Fatah, PA, who is willing to go on the record for a two-state solution.
To cut off Israel’s supply of arms is to doom it to annihilation. This war can be easily stopped if Hamas and Hezbollah would stop trying to kill Israelis. They could end Palestinian suffering tomorrow.
Israel is the only place on Earth where Jews are readily accepted. It’s imperative that we defend it against all attackers. Unless, of course, the survival of the Jewish religion is unimportant to this opinion writer.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
