A Maine state representative turned himself in Monday morning after Sanford Police wanted him for an alleged domestic violence aggravated assault.
The Sanford Police Department issued a warrant for the arrest of state Rep. Lucas Lanigan, police confirmed on Saturday. Police were searching for him through the weekend.
Lanigan, a Republican, represents the 141st District, comprising parts of Shapleigh, Newfield, Sanford and Springvale.
He turned himself in to the York County Jail around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sanford police Maj. Mark Dyer said. Dyer said the assault was reported to police on Friday, but would not clarify what specifically Lanigan is accused of, saying the investigation is ongoing.
Lanigan was elected to the House in 2022 and is running for reelection in November against Democrat Patricia Kidder. He lives in the Springvale area of Sanford.
