A roughly 2-mile stretch of road connecting Gorham and Westbrook reopened Monday afternoon after closing for nearly an hour following a car crash, Cumberland County officials said.

New Gorham Road in Westbrook, which becomes New Portland Road in Gorham, was closed between its eastern intersection with Longfellow Street to a roundabout about 2 miles west that connects it with Libby Avenue and Brackett Road.

It’s not clear how many vehicles were involved in the crash. In a statement about the crash issued just before 3:30 p.m., Cumberland County told motorists to avoid the area.

The Cumberland County Regional Communications Center did not reply to emailed questions about the severity of the crash or timeline for traffic’s return. A dispatcher was not immediately able to answer questions about the crash shortly after 3:45 p.m.

The county said the road had reopened shortly after 4:10 p.m. but did not provide further details.
