The Brick Store Museum will once again make spirits come alive for one afternoon during its 21st annual All Souls’ Walk on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event features continuous tours through Hope Cemetery beginning at noon, with the last tour departing at 3p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, children under 12 are admitted free.

The narrated historical walks begin at the Brick Store Museum at 117 Main St., Kennebunk, and cover a half-mile loop through Kennebunk’s Hope Cemetery, lasting approximately 75 minutes.
The program was recently awarded Best Tour by the Kennebunk-Kennebunkport-Arundel Chamber of Commerce. Costumed interpreters portray the historical figures, and share their stories of love, loss, and fate. According to a news release, new this year are seven new stories that will be shared during the tour. Not too spooky, it’s an activity for the whole family.
Participants visit more than a dozen gravesites and learn local history through the “fascinating and often tragic tales of residents from bygone eras,” according to the news release.
Tours conclude back at the museum, where guests are invited to view the museum’s new exhibitions. The signature event is sponsored by Maine Community Bank. The museum extended thanks to Hope Cemetery for once again hosting the All Souls’ Walk. In addition to the in-person tour, the museum offers its All Souls’ Walk companion book complete with all the stories told in the past 20 years. Proceeds benefit the Brick Store Museum and Hope Cemetery.
Advanced reservations are required, with limited walk-in spots possible, but not guaranteed (first-come, first served). Tickets can be reserved in advance at the Brick Store Museum, or online at www.brickstoremuseum.org. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date will be announced.
Vets Day 5K benefits
Honor Flight Maine

The Wells Chamber of Commerce will host the 11th annual Veterans Day 5K on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. The 5K run/walk will start and end at the Wells Elks Lodge. The Elks Lodge is located at 356 Bald Hill Road in Wells.
Proceeds from the event will again benefit Honor Flight Maine. Sevigney-Lyons Insurance Agency is the Primary Event Sponsor and M&T Bank and Holmes Legal Group are the Gold Sponsors.
The cost for adults is $20 in advance (prior to Nov. 8) and $25 after Nov. 8; students age 11-17 cost is $15 in advance, $20 after Nov. 8. There is no registration fee for children 10 and younger. The first 100 registrants will receive a free long-sleeve T-shirt.
The Wells Elks Lodge will will offer food and beverage for sale after the race (participants are asked to bring ID). Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Overall (male/female), Under 20 (male/female), 20-29 (male/female), 30-39 (male/female), 40-49 (male/female), 50-59 (male/female), 60-69 (male/female) and 70-plus (male/female).

Initials JR album
release concert

The jazz trio Initials JR, comprising John Kumnick (bassist for David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, and Madonna), Dylan Kumnick, and Max Cantlin, will play songs from their new album, Incandescent Roads, as well as music by Stevie Wonder, Jim Webb, Coltrane and others, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Town House School, 135 North St., Kennebunkport.

Harvest Fair
at St. David’s
St. David’s Episcopal Church will host its annual Harvest Fair on Saturday, Nov. 2. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located at 138 York St. (Route 1 south) in Kennebunk.

The fair features baked goods and sweets for sale along with homemade frozen pot pies and jams and jellies. Lunch will be catered sandwiches and soups by local providers. The silent auction will include over 60 items and gift certificates from local businesses, as well as a donation from the Bush family – former First Lady Barbara Bush’s hand-painted set of kitchen chairs featuring local landmarks, including St. Ann’s Church, Kennebunk River Club and Walker’s Point. Also, a painting by donated by Doro Bush Koch will be auctioned.
The basket raffle will feature over 30 collections of themed items such as Coffee Lovers, Family Movie Night, Seasonings and Spices, Wines and Cheeses, and a Winter Car Care Basket. Other tables include Table of Treasures with unique finds, a Jewelry Table with old and new offerings, and a Hand Made basket of holiday items.

Garden club plans
annual open meeting

The Seacoast Garden Club invites the public to its annual fall open meeting on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. for a presentation titled, All About Lavender.
Janee Marie Beck, according to meeting organizers, will give a presentation on lavender. She grows lavender on her farm, Hidden Meadows Farm and Vineyard in Eliot. She uses lavender in everything, from appetizers and desserts, to body oil, scrubs, and soaps. It is even used in the beer her husband brews. She will tell discuss lavender varieties, harvesting, pruning, and its many uses.
The presentation will be at the Community House, located at 8 Temple St., in Kennebunkport. Coffee, tea, and refreshments begin at 9:30 a.m. with the presentation beginning at 10 a.m.
Conservation trust seeks
online auction donations
The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust is seeking donations for items or experiences for its online auction. According to a trust news release, suggested items are “handmade/handcrafted pieces, clothing, art, quirky/nostalgic vintage items, useful services, gift cards, one-of-a-kind experiences, gift baskets, jewelry, antique or estate items in good condition, historical items and gifts that will enrich the lives of our community members.”

Graves Library
A trick or treat event will be held at Graves Library on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 3 to 5 p.m. According to a news release, a friendly witch, Sumo wrestler, Pokemon, and more characters will give out treats.

Chime Choir concert
The fall concert by the South Church Chime Choir is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. at South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport. The program will feature popular songs and light classical music.

First Congregational Church is hosting its last baked bean and American chop suey supper of the 2024 season on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the church, 141 North St., Kennebunkport. The menu will feature two types of baked beans, including meatless beans,

Fitness class
for adults
Arundel Parks and Recreation Department will host a low impact fitness class for adults. The class is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays throughout November.
The class will feature aerobics, weights, balancing and stretching. Participants can be seated or standing and modifications can be made for any exercise. The goal is to increase energy, strength, and improve balance, all while making new friends. Organizers say the class will strive to combat isolation and make physical activity a part life. hosts author Gutro
The Kennebunkport Historical Society will host a lecture and book signing by Rob Gutro, author, medium, and paranormal investigator. The event takes place at Town House School, located at 135 North St. in Kennebunkport. Both lectures are free, with donations encouraged to support the society.
The session is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, and is titled, Ghost Cases from Inspired Ghost Tracking. Gutro will take the audience behind the scenes of paranormal investigations with the Inspired Ghost Tracking group from Maryland.
Gutro, according to the historical society, is an accomplished author, medium, and paranormal investigator with Inspired Ghost Tracking of Maryland. Known for his ability to communicate with both pets and people who have passed, Rob combines his scientific background with his mediumship to explain how energy forms the basis of the afterlife.
His best-selling books include the “Pets and the Afterlife” series and “Case Files of Inspired Ghost Tracking.” Gutro’s books will be available for purchase at the event.
Land trust holds
preserve opening
Kennebunk Land Trust held a trail opening on Oct. 13 at its new Tributary Preserve. The preserve is located at the end of Drala Drive in West Kennebunk.
According to the land trust, it acquired the parcel in early 2022, and has been working to design and build nature trails open to the public. The trail opening event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will celebrate the new trails with guided nature walks from a Maine Master Naturalist.

Kennebunkport Historical Society announced the return of the Maine Made Craft Fair on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7. The fair, according to a news release, will take place at White Columns, “the society’s historic mansion, offering the perfect setting for visitors to experience the beauty and craftsmanship of Maine-made goods.”
The event will showcase a curated selection of local artisans, featuring photography and textiles to jewelry, handcrafted goods, and literature.

Meals on Wheels of York County is in need of volunteer drivers. According to a Southern Maine Agency on Aging press release, the commitment is 1 to 2 hours, once a week. Volunteers are reimbursed for gas and clients, say organizers, are always glad to see the drivers.

Radio Club meetings
The York County Amateur Radio Club meets on the first Sunday of each month from September to June. The meetings begin at 2:45 p.m. at the Wells town offices at 208 Sanford Road.

Propaganda exhibit
at Brick Store Museum
The Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk opened its new exhibition, Who Controls the Present: The Art of Propaganda. The exhibit, according to a press release, explores the historic and current-day propaganda posters and imagery, including posters from its World Wars poster collection that is one of the largest in New England. The exhibition will be on view through Nov. 15.
Visitors to the exhibition will explore types of propaganda and how to recognize it; and view dozens of World War I and World War II posters created by the US government in the first half of the 20th century. Links to today’s form of propaganda, like memes and social media posts, will be made across the exhibit and will invite participants to take part in advancing the civic dialogue around propaganda and false information.
In addition to the exhibition, museum educators have produced curriculum modules and learning activities for area educators and homeschoolers to use in conjunction with the exhibition, in addition to hosting class field trips to the museum to explore the exhibition’s primary source materials.

Kennebunk Land Trust released the dates for its Nature Walk series. The first Saturday of each month, the land trust hosts a nature walk on a different preserve following a different theme. Participants are invited to explore a new local preserve and enjoy nature in all seasons.
The walks are led by local Maine Guides and master naturalists, who take participants through the nature preserve and share knowledge and ask questions about the flora, fauna, and nature.
The walks are free of charge for all ages and held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Donations are accepted and well-behaved dogs are welcome. The schedule:

The New England Radio Discussion Society meets biweekly on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. throughout the year at The New School in Kennebunk. The club informally gathers to support and promote amateur (ham) radio. Wide-ranging discussion topics include: early and contemporary equipment, digital technology, internet integration, and striving for international contacts. Most meetings include a tech talk by a society member.

Astro Society
hosts star parties
The Astronomical Society of Northern New England has set its schedule for public Star Parties through August and invites the public to attend. The society operates its own observatory, the Talmage Observatory at Starfield, on Route 35, in West Kennebunk.
At the Star Parties, the public, as well as society members, are most invited to observe the heavens through club telescopes, as well as member telescopes. Stars, visible planets, and deep-sky objects can all be viewed. Experienced society members are on hand to guide the observing, explain what is being seen, and answer questions. There is no fee.

Vets group launches
free-coffee Wednesdays
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1044 has launched free-coffee Wednesdays to all veterans. Chapter 1044 is located at 508 Elm St. in Biddeford (basement of American Legion Post 26). Chapter meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month and begin at 1:30 p.m.
Those who served in the past, or are currently serving, are welcomed to the Wednesday coffee from 9 to 11 a.m. Veterans need simply to show military ID or wear an item that identifies their service, and the coffee is on Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1044. Tables will be set up with board games and a veteran service officer will be available to answer questions on veterans’ benefits or to help file a claim for disability through the VA system. The service is also available to spouses of veterans.
Also available will be a veterans assistance officer to help those veterans and or families in need of assistance with heating fuel or other issues. Additional days might be added depending on demand.
