Cumberland, Chebeague Island and Long Island will soon have a new person representing us up in Augusta, and I sure hope it will be Christina Mitchell. She is a smart and dedicated public servant. She’s an educator by training, so she has the patience and fortitude to deal with the difficulties and – let’s be honest – silliness that sometimes happens in Augusta.
She cares about solving critical issues our community, state and nation face. From climate change to a woman’s bodily autonomy to strong public schools and safe communities, she’s right there with us. And she won’t back down when things get tough, as she showed by helping stop a book-banning effort while serving on our school board.
Mitchell is a thoughtful, kind and passionate advocate for our community. I couldn’t ask for a better representative up in Augusta. Please join me in voting for Christina Mitchell for House District 110 this fall.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
