I write to endorse Bill Donovan in his candidacy for an open seat on the Town Council. By running for this seat, Donovan demonstrates, once again, that he is a dedicated public servant to his adopted home town of Scarborough.
When serving on the council previously (three years as chair), Donovan advocated for common sense budgetary restraint all while providing for the needs of seniors and low-income residents. Donovan was an early advocate for preserving open space and worked with developers to find common sense solutions to managing growth.
I got to know Donovan best in his position as president of the Trustees of the Scarborough Public Library. Donovan always led with calm confidence, he listened carefully and always weighed options before reaching any conclusions. Those are exactly the skills we need in a member of the council.
Please join me in voting “yes” for Bill Donovan.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
