to be shown Oct. 25

The sweeping film, “Common Ground,” will be shown Friday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 114 Main St., Kennebunk. Admission is free.

According to the film, “Big Agriculture” has promoted toxic seeds and sprays with the goal of producing tremendous quantities of nutritionally dense food. But pioneers of the Regenerative Movement are bringing the ecosystem back to life while avoiding toxics. The film is sponsored by the Kennebunk Farmers Market and The New School.

This film is the sequel to award winning documentary “Kiss The Ground.” Including deeply personal stories from those in the front lines of the sustainable food movement, “Common Ground, Saving the Planet One Acre at a Time,” unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed the planet. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative, regenerative models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save the world’s health, and stabilize America’s economy.

Coastal art work by Sally Berry Glenn will be on display during November at the Kennebunk Free Library. Contributed / KFL

The Speers Gallery at the Kennebunk Free Library presents the exhibit “Painting Coastal Maine” by Sally Berry Glenn. The show will consist of over 30 original oil and watercolor paintings of local land and ocean scapes. The exhibit runs Nov. 1-30 with an opening reception on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Glenn is a native of Maine and has an Art History degree from Colby College. She has painted as a Plein Air artist in California and Maine since 1980. Glenn has studied with master artists, Peter Adams, president of the California Art Association, Kevin McPhearson, Camille Prizwodek, Ray Roberts and attended three Master week conferences in Monterey and Dana Point, California. She has shown her work in many juried art shows including in the Portland Art Gallery for three years. She is currently a member of The River Tree Art Association in Kennebunk, Maine.

The public is invited to view the exhibit in the library’s Speers Gallery at 112 Main St., Kennebunk, Maine during regular library hours when the gallery is not in use for library programs. Check the library website for current hours and gallery access, at kennebunklibrary.org.
