There were no explosive materials in two “suspicious” bags found in Biddeford on Friday night, Maine State Police said Saturday.
Biddeford police evacuated buildings and shut down two roads in the city Friday night after a report of a “suspicious device,” the department said in a statement.
Police were investigating a second suspicious bag shortly after 9:45 p.m., a dispatcher said.
By then, both Jefferson and Washington streets had been reopened, though officers were still on-scene, the department said.
“Out of an abundance of caution, several residential buildings in the area have been evacuated for safety,” the department said shortly after 7 p.m.
The Maine State Fire Marshal and Maine State Police Explosives Unit joined Biddeford police officers.
Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, said the bomb team determined that the suspicious bags did not have explosive material in them.
