Lucy Johnson scored with an assist from Joey Pompeo 41 seconds into the second overtime as Cheverus stayed undefeated with a 1-0 victory at Gorham in a Class A South field hockey game Friday.

The Stags (9-0) hadn’t been held scoreless for more than two quarters this season, but Rams goalie Madison Tibbals held them at bay with 11 saves until Cheverus finally broke through in transition, as Johnson got past the last defender and finished.

Ellie Skolnekovich stopped five shots for the Stags.

Gorham fell to 5-3.

YARMOUTH 2, BRUNSWICK 1: Erin O’Connor’s goal in the fourth quarter lifted the Clippers (8-1) over the Dragons (2-5-2), in Brunswick.

Yarmouth’s Celia Zinman opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the first quarter.

Quinn McCormack tied it in the third, assisted by Ellie Meserve and Ava Wolverton.

Sally McGrath assisted on O’Connor’s winning goal.

Yarmouth goalie Emma Shannon made one save. Ella Duchette of Brunswick stopped eight shots.

FALMOUTH 4, KENNEBUNK 0: Allie Sweetser scored twice as the Navigators (6-3) defeated the Rams (3-7) in Kennebunk.

Lily Young and Siobhan Nielsen each added a goal.

Faith Flynn stopped 14 shots for Kennebunk.

FOOTBALL

FREEPORT 31, MARANACOOK 0: Teddy Peters rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another, and Liam Emmons kicked three field goals as the Falcons (2-3) defeated the Black Bears (2-2) in Freeport.

Peters opened the scoring with a 25-yard field goal. Peters connected with Hunter Richards for a 16-yard TD pass in the second quarter, and Emmons made it 12-0 just before halftime with a 19-yard field goal.

Peters then run up the middle for two touchdowns in the third quarter, from 3 and 4 yards.

Emmons booted a 41-yard field goal in the fourth.

WELLS 50, OAK HILL 21: Dom Buxton had five rushing touchdowns to power the Warriors (5-0) to a Class D South win over the Raiders (2-3) at Wells.

Eli Potter ran for two touchdowns.

Caden Delano figured in all three touchdowns for Oak Hill, twice on the ground, including a 70-yard run in the first half. He also connected with Logan Langlois on a halfback option pass.

BOYS’ SOCCER

FALMOUTH 8, NOBLE 0: Charlie Creswell paced a balanced offense with two goals and assist as the Navigators (9-2) cruised past the Knights (2-5-2) in Falmouth.

Clayton Hickey, Evan Mayo, Wyatt Carlson, Kian Long, Simon Wissink and Jake Hazard each added a goal. Alex Lallemonde, Lyle Cowperthwaite and Riley DuToit were credited with an assist.

PINE TREE ACADEMY 2, TEMPLE ACADEMY 1: The Breakers (6-0) got first-half goals from Collin Verrill and Sammy Batista and held on to beat the Bereans (7-2) in Waterville.

Rio Soran was credited with an assist for Pine Tree.

MONMOUTH ACADEMY 1, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 0: Bryce Fletcher’s second-half goal lifted the Mustangs (8-2) to a victory over the Panthers (6-2-1) in Monmouth.

Fletcher was assisted by Sam Schultz, who played a ball into the goal area, where Fletcher found an opening.

Lewis Lamoreau made seven saves for Monmouth. NYA’s Gavin Thomas stopped 14 shots.

DEERING 3, SOUTH PORTLAND 1: Ethan Fisher, Augusto Daniel and Samuel Almeida all scored in the first half as the Rams (6-3-1) built a 3-0 lead on their way to a win over the Red Riots (3-5) at South Portland.

Jackson Houlette’s second-half goal for South Portland prevented a shutout.

GORHAM 2, WESTBROOK 0: The Rams (6-4) got first-half goals from Owen Spera and Chuma Johnson to beat the Blue Blazes (4-4-1) in Gorham.

Colby Jordan set up Spera’s opening goal, and Moises Ntango assisted on Johnson’s goal.

WINDHAM 2, BIDDEFORD 1: Luke Cunniffe’s goal in the second overtime lifted the Eagles (8-1) over the Tigers (5-5) in Windham.

Sam Rogers opened the scoring early in the second half for Windham, the No. 1 team in the Varsity Maine top 10. Zeuz Rankin tied it with 11:38 remaining in regulation.

Biddeford keeper Xavier Pineau finished with 19 saves, while Lukas Hammond of Windham stopped 11 shots.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 8, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 0: Delphine Daniel scored twice and six others added a goal apiece for the Panthers (8-2) in a win over the Mustangs (5-4) in Yarmouth.

Lyla Casey and Natasha Godfrey each finished with a goal and an assist. Caroline Matusovich, Ella Giguere, Sadie Swenson and Alicia Fontana also scored. Giguere’s goal was directly off a corner kick.

VOLLEYBALL

MARSHWOOD 3, KENNEBUNK 2: Sivan Semo had seven blocks, Hannah Tuttle made 29 digs and Nellie Young recorded 22 kills as the Hawks (6-3) outlasted the Rams (3-5) in five sets, 19-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22, 15-8.
