As longtime residents of Cumberland, we write to enthusiastically support the candidacy of Christina Mitchell for Maine House District Seat 110, currently held by Steve Moriarty, who is retiring after many years of public service. Like Moriarty, Mitchell is a good listener who has no ideological axes to grind, knows how to get things done, and to that end is willing to work with both sides of the aisle in the State House. She is a staunch proponent of women’s reproductive rights and regards finding constructive approaches to the opioid crisis as a high legislative priority. Mitchell has been involved in many local activities, is currently serving on the SAD 51 School Board and will continue Cumberland’s tradition of sending thoughtful, principled and effective leaders to Augusta.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
