We had a wonderful time at the Arundel Historical Society’s 9th Annual Heritage Day on Sept. 14. The weather was perfect and the event was thoughtfully organized. Upon arrival, myriad greeters welcomed us with enthusiasm and cheer, furnishing us with an informative timeline of the day’s events and list of participants. Then, a parking volunteer, Diane, noticing my husband’s difficulty walking, guided us to a particular handicapped parking place. This beautiful woman, a former caregiver professional, checked on us throughout the afternoon, making sure that all of our needs were met. Her exceptional care was amazing. We felt delighted just being there among these lovely Arundel people.

Taking in the beautiful surroundings, it was delightful to see so many happy people, young and old, wandering about and shopping at the many craft and food booths. There were also unique displays for history buffs to enjoy, including writing with quill pens. Later, we settled under a tent and enjoyed a delicious, expertly prepared deep fried scallop lunch from The Lobster Company booth, while enjoying the spirited music of Pack Man Dave, Kennebunk River Band and the Ukulele Strummers of Southern Maine. Off in the distance we could see and hear little kids squealing with excitement while riding Beal’s Little Acres ponies.

The weather was perfect. Everything was perfect. We felt truly blessed being there among the genuine, humble and sincerely hospitable Arundel people. It was all about people. It profoundly was “Maine, The Way Life Should Be.”
