In reelecting Sen. Teresa Pierce to the Maine Senate, the people of Senate District 25 (Gray, North Yarmouth, Long Island, Yarmouth, Cumberland and Falmouth) have the opportunity to return a thoughtful, experienced and committed public servant to Augusta. I served with Pierce on the Falmouth Town Council more than a decade ago and since then she has served with distinction in the Legislature, first as a member of the House of Representatives where she served as the House chair of the Appropriations Committee, and now in the Senate. She has distinguished herself in particular as an advocate for affordable housing and environmental protection and as a legislator not only willing but eager to work in a bipartisan manner. Returning Pierce to the Senate is good for Senate District 25 and it is good for Maine. Please join me in voting for Teresa Pierce on Nov. 5.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
