As a former Cumberland town councilor, I am keenly aware of the issues facing our community and its residents. However, when serving, I often ran into instances where the problem we wanted to solve could not be cured solely at the local level, but rather needed to be addressed head-on by the state Legislature. Given this reality, I am proud to support Christina Mitchell in her run for Maine State House District 10 to represent Cumberland, Chebeague Island and Long Island in Augusta. Whether it is her stance on education, reproductive freedoms, gun safety, environmental protections or aging in Maine, Mitchell not only has the right skillset and experience, but also the right temperament to lead us through these challenging times. Please join me in voting for Christina Mitchell for Maine State House District 10 either via absentee ballot or in person on Nov. 5.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
