As a former state representative (2010-2018), I served on Maine’s powerful Appropriations Committee, where our hard-earned money is prioritized. From 2019 to 2022 (most recent data), the state expenditures exploded by a staggering $4 billion. Comparably, 2014-2018, spending only grew by $360 million.
The state has a shortage of experienced legislators in office. We need reasonable leaders who will roll up their sleeves and right-size our bloated budget.
Scarborough resident Don Hamill, married, father of four, understands our daily struggles. Hamill’s background in human resources and finance means he will work on solutions to our workforce and housing shortages. In 2018, he was elected to the Scarborough Town Council; Councilor Hamill knows how to read a budget and balance the books. Imagine – a common sense senator with useful experience who can do math. This is why I am voting for Don Hamill for Maine Senate.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
