The history of the United States of America has many examples of political violence. But the 2024 race to the White House is unique. Two times in the last nine weeks, one candidate for president has been the subject of assassination attempts. I am appalled by this fact, and I condemn it with every fiber of my being.
When former President Trump was wounded on July 13, the nation sighed with relief that he was not seriously injured. There was a brief period of unity in the land. But then, after the proverbial “smoke” cleared, Mr. Trump began asking for money from his supporters, and he cashed in on his injury. Sympathizers sent him a lot of money.
That brings us to Sept. 15, when another attempt on his life apparently was made. And before we could say “Holy cow,” he was seeking more contributions. I know he has a lot of legal bills and he never seems to miss an opportunity to raise money from supporters (e.g. sneakers, Bibles). But does his crassness know no bounds? Is it possible that he staged the latest event to bamboozle gullible supporters into giving him ever more cash? Knowing his penchant for lies (“They’re eating the cats”), could it be true? Just wondering.
