A fundraiser to help Casella employee and community supporter Dean Ferris, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June, will be held Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Throttle Car Club, 167 Innovation Way, Scarborough.
The “Fight for Ferris” will include a touch-a-truck event, cornhole tournament, silent auction and live music with Pat Foley and Tony McAllister and the Sierra Sounds. All proceeds go directly to Dean Ferris and his family to help with medical and day-to-day living expenses, according to organizer Matt Garrett.
Besides servicing most of Scarborough’s trash collection route, Ferris is known for his friendliness and community outreach. He most recently appeared on radio with Don Campbell promoting the Flotilla to Fight Cancer benefit concert between his chemotherapy treatments. Residents along his route know him for handing out toys and coloring books to kids, letting them check out his truck and toot its horn, offering treats to dogs and playing Santa during the holidays.
The event is free. Cornhole has a $50 buy-in for a team of two. For more information, go to the Throttle Car Club Facebook page.
